The ICONIC project aims to improve strategic sustainable mobility planning and ensure more effective implementation of mobility plans. The project’s central ambition is to integrate intermodality in an inclusive and sustainable way, while making use of the opportunities offered by digital innovations in the field of mobility.
To achieve this goal, project partners are carrying out a comprehensive update of existing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs). Particular emphasis is placed on better connecting different modes of transport within existing public transport systems – especially through the development and enhancement of mobility hubs, the promotion of MaaS (Mobility as a Service) platforms, and the strengthening of DRT (Demand Responsive Transport) solutions.
The interests of users and mobility service providers are directly taken into account when planning new measures, enabling more tailored, feasible and sustainable solutions. This approach strengthens the social acceptance of measures and ensures that mobility development responds to the actual needs of local communities.
Key phase: knowledge transfer and capacity building
During the key phase of the ICONIC project, intensive knowledge and good practice exchange is taking place among project partners and key stakeholders. Particular attention is given to successful examples of intermodal connectivity from across Europe, which serve as inspiration for improving local policies.
At the same time, the project strengthens cross-sectoral cooperation, raises awareness of the benefits of project results and develops the capacities of local actors who are essential for the successful implementation of updated mobility plans.
Final phase: monitoring impacts
In the final stage of the project, particular attention will be given to monitoring the progress of policy instruments and analysing the impacts of the improvements introduced, thereby ensuring the long-term usefulness and sustainability of the project results.
Focus in Slovenia: Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of the Municipality of Beltinci
In the Slovenian part of the project, the key policy instrument targeted for improvement is the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of the Municipality of Beltinci. The plan provides the main framework for the long-term development of sustainable mobility in the municipality. Within the ICONIC project, an in-depth review of the plan’s objectives, indicators and measures will be carried out, with a focus on opportunities for improvement – particularly in the areas of intermodal connections, inclusive mobility and digital mobility support. Good practices from partner regions will serve as an important reference for developing higher-quality, more feasible and user-friendly solutions.
